Job Summary:

The Instructor will teach in an accelerated, short-term training program designed in conjunction with the university’s NASA project. Advanced Manufacturing is a component of the Building Trades Program. Students in this program will design and manufacture a 3D-printed cement structure. The responsibilities include on-going curriculum development, delivering instruction, and advising students. Program topics will include general instruction on additive manufacturing processes, additive manufacturing safety best practices, application, and hands-on training.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Instruct a minimum of 3 classes leading to a stackable certificate in Additive Manufacturing.
  • Manage lab: organize, maintain, and keep labs updated and secure; ensure safety of students and other 
  • faculty/student assistants.
  • Assist students in accessing university and community resources that aid retention.
  • Participate in university committees and department meetings.
  • Collaborate with NASA Project managers, curriculum developers, and other college & university partners to ensure a confident and competent student experience leading to certificates/degrees and workforce placement in local and regional 3D printing of cement structures

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • A degree in engineering, robotics, construction technology or a related field with experience in additive manufacturing is preferred; however, the degree may be substituted with experience.
  • Applicants should have experience working in the manufacturing and technology field as well as possess skills in any of the following disciplines: mechatronics, robotics, automation controls, PLCs, manufacturing processes, welding, machining, computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing, instrumentation, fluid power, mechanical systems, industrial electricity, quality control, and additive manufacturing.
  • Experience with project start-up and grant-funded programs is desirable.

Working Conditions:

Within the classroom environment, this position may require long periods of time sitting at a desk and using a computer. Also requires lab time that may involve long periods standing, moving to various lab stations, handling equipment and working with students to gain experience with a large robotic arm used in the 3D printing process. May require lifting of 50 lbs. or more or the use of devices to aid in lifting.
