Job Description
Objective:
A mission-driven Accountant who’s passionate about agriculture and rural communities. You’ll play a vital role in guiding family-owned farms through the financial maze, helping them stay independent and successful.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Support farmers with bookkeeping, reconciliations and report compilations
- Code & enter AP invoices, print checks and maintain vendor relationships
- Analyze general ledger accounts to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely
- Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis
- Maintain general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable; inventory; prepaid expenses; fixed assets and depreciation, other assets, accounts payable, and accrued expenses.
- Prepare balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements required under standard operating procedures
- Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
- Ensure cost tracking of projects at farms and capitalization/expensing
- Variance analysis
- Year-end close including preparation of information to be sent to tax preparers
- Participate in farm meetings to provide color to transaction detail
- Translate financial data into plain language for farm families
- Onboard new family farms
- Assist with other accounting projects, as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- BSC/BA in accounting, finance or related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience required, preferably in the agriculture field
- Experience with Sage 100 preferred, but not required
Work Environment:
- Office environment utilizing a variety of computer software
Physical Requirements:
- Detail oriented, highly organized and savvy with accounting spreadsheets
- Proven ability to work in a team environment
- Proven ability to problem solve
Additional Requirements:
- Great at building relationships with clients who may not speak “finance”
- Have a genuine interest in supporting the agricultural community
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to attend and participate in meetings of various lengths
Compensation/Benefits:
- $50,000-$53,000 base salary, depending on experience
