Position Overview
Midwest Fire is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Welder/Fabricator to assemble, tack, and perform final welding on a variety of aluminum frame weldments and components. This hands-on role includes fabricating parts using equipment such as shears, brakes, plasma cutters, and small machining tools while working safely, efficiently, and as part of the production team.

What You’ll Do
Perform MIG and TIG welding on aluminum and light steel components, including tack-up and final welding of fire apparatus assemblies.
Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings to ensure quality and accuracy.
Fabricate and modify parts using shop equipment such as shears, press brakes, plasma cutters, and basic machining tools.
Use measuring and inspection tools to verify dimensions and maintain quality standards.
Perform basic mechanical assembly and fabrication tasks, including drilling, tapping, and component fitting.
Maintain welding equipment and perform routine preventive maintenance as required.
Follow all Midwest Fire quality, safety, housekeeping, and professionalism standards while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Assist with material handling, inventory, and other production-related duties as needed.
Operate forklifts, cranes, and standard shop equipment safely.
What We’re Looking For
Two-year technical welding certification or equivalent combination of training and hands-on experience in welding and fabrication preferred.
Minimum two years of experience in a manufacturing or shop environment.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, drawings, procedures, safety rules, and equipment instructions.
Ability to use measuring tools and fabrication equipment accurately, including tape measures, calipers, plasma cutters, press brakes, and other shop tools.
Dependable attendance, a positive work ethic, and a commitment to quality, safety, and teamwork.
Authorization to work in the United States.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This position requires standing on concrete for most of the shift and may include walking, climbing, balancing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, crawling and working on or around trucks. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; team lifts are required for items over 50 pounds. The role includes frequent work near mechanical equipment and occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles and low-to-medium noise levels.
