We are seeking a motivated and dependable Fire Sprinkler Installer Apprentice to join our team. This entry-level position provides hands-on training in the installation, repair, maintenance, and modification of fire sprinkler systems under the supervision of experienced Fire Sprinkler Fitters. Work is performed at commercial, industrial, and residential job sites throughout South Dakota and surrounding states. This position requires overnight travel, with some projects requiring extended travel away from home.
Upon successful completion of the 90-day probationary period, employees are required to enroll in Total Fire Protection’s U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program, where they will receive paid on-the-job training and classroom instruction to develop the skills necessary to become a licensed Fire Sprinkler Fitter.
Job Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older
High school diploma or GED preferred
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Willingness to travel overnight, including extended travel assignments when required
Ability to work extended hours, evenings, and weekends as needed
Successfully complete the 90-day probationary period and enroll in the company’s federally registered apprenticeship program
Essential Job Functions
Assist with the installation, repair, modification, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems
Learn to read blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
Measure, cut, thread, groove, and assemble sprinkler piping
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifts, and construction equipment
Assist with system testing, inspections, and commissioning
Maintain clean and organized job sites
Follow NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, local codes, and company safety policies
Attend all required apprenticeship classes and complete related training and documentation
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
Lift and carry up to 75 pounds or more
Climb ladders and scaffolding and work in confined spaces for extended periods
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
