Food & Beverage Manager: Reports to Director of Operations, Club House Manager and Board of Directors
Overview:
Moccasin Creek Country Club is a PRIVATE 18-hole golf course and full-service Clubhouse located in Northeastern South Dakota. The area features great outdoor activities, is very family oriented, and has a low cost of living. The Club hosts 19,000 rounds of golf a year with 300 golf memberships along with another 200 social memberships and is regarded as one of the finer Clubs in the state.
Job Summary:
The Food & Beverage Manager is responsible for leading the food and beverage service team throughout our clubhouse facility, including the Formal Dining Room (Gordie’s), Casual Dining (Maddox) Room, Outdoor Patio, Casual Bar/Lounge Room. The role will also oversee sales of food and beverages through the on-course Beverage Carts. The Manager will be responsible for proper beverage handling, and inventory management of all bar supplies.
The Food & Beverage Manager is responsible for ensuring that all front-of-house member interaction is of the highest quality. The role oversees all aspects of service staff hiring and training, maintains a clean and safe work environment and oversees the financial performance (revenues and expenses) for the department. The Manager collaborates with the Director of Operations, Golf team, culinary team and House Committee and commits to creating unique club events for members and guests at Moccasin Creek .
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains professional and personable service standards in all clubhouse areas and during events.
- Acknowledges, greets and thanks all members and guests for patronage.
- Ensure proper room preparation, including set-up of buffet lines, tables, chairs, linens, table settings, glassware for regular dining and dedicated events.
- Prepares and staff for all club and golf events, large parties and reservations that may affect food and beverage service operations.
- Communicates and cooperates with other departments (Golf Shop, Maintenance, Kitchen, etc.) ensuring member feedback is heard, events are properly promoted, and staff is properly trained on the food and beverage menus.
- Confirms that all service staff are in proper uniform and adhere to the Club's appearance standards.
- Hires, manages and trains staff in all aspects of their role including Club standards of quality and service.
- Creates, maintains and distributes weekly schedules for staff and communicates changes as appropriate.
- Communicate with service and kitchen staff regarding reservations and/or special events.
- Collaborate with Executive Chef on innovative ideas/member feedback
- Conducts pre-shift, pre-meal and/or pre-event meetings with all necessary staff
- Evaluates and reviews performance and carries out disciplinary action as needed, in accordance with the Club's policies and applicable laws
- Make rounds of all food and beverage outlets to ensure member/guest needs are met
- Responsible for employee relation issues and reviews incidents with Director of Operations
- Completes and administers employee performance reviews
- Responsible for Managing bar costs, conducting inventory reviews, reviewing staffing costs and maintaining margins.
- Identifies sales opportunities through promotions, special events and by staff "up-selling."
- Maintains member and guest satisfaction by handing questions or concerns quickly and providing solutions.
- Seek feedback from members and staff to ensure satisfaction and implement service improvement ideas.
Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
- Be available to work for weekends, nights and some holidays.
- Attend and participate in all Leadership meetings.
- Implement and support all Club initiatives and programs.
- Maintain knowledge of other Clubs and trends in the food service industry
Be able to fill in on a temporary basis as a Server, Host, Wait Assistant, Bartender, etc. to back-up staff during peak periods or when short-staffed.
Experience:
- Two- or four-year college degree or equivalent experience: (Preferred)
- Wait Staff experience : 2 years: (Preferred)
- Excel, Power Point, POS Systems, Proficiency with Word: (Required)
- Two years Club/ Golf I Hospitality Service: (Preferred)
- Management or leadership experience: (Required)
- One year Bartend Experience
Other Skills:
- Experience in resolving customer issues/complaints as well as overall excellent customer service required
- Solid time management, organization and prioritization skills
- Proven ability to effectively build and foster a team environment
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and non-verbally with others

Mental & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to bend, climb, balance, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl without hindrance
- While performing this job, employee will be exposed to sunlight, heat, wet and/or humid conditions
- Maintains a professional appearance appropriate to position and as per Club policy
- Ability to climb on step stool or ladder to complete elements of the job or facilitate maintenance issues
