Summary of Position


Assists with the general maintenance of turf and landscaped areas of the grounds of St. Joseph’s Indian School, including
mowing, trimming, irrigation, and removal of natural and man-made trash. This is a nonexempt position.

Responsibilities


1. Maintains turf areas, which includes mowing, trimming, irrigation, fertilizing, and removal of natural and manmade trash.
2. Maintains hard-surfaced outdoor areas, which includes removal of debris (natural or man-made) and /or snow
from sidewalks, steps, patios, streets, playground, and drainage systems. Remove snow from and add salt to
doorways. Spread gravel on roadways, intersections and sidewalks.
3. Installs and maintains landscaping and campus plant-life. This includes planting, watering, pruning, removing,
fertilizing, mulching, etc. Mixes and applies fertilizers and insecticides as needed.
4. Responsible for the safe and effective removal of trees, and for pruning or trimming branches, leaves, and roots
to maintain healthy growth, ensure public safety, and preserve the overall appearance and integrity of
landscaped areas.
5. Maintains and installs irrigation systems including winterizing and spring start-up.
6. Operates heavy and light motorized equipment and vehicles. Operates power tools and uses hand tools needed
in completing duties.
7. Maintains and repairs tools and equipment. Reports damaged or broken equipment to supervisor.
8. Installs rock walls and drainage systems. Installs landscape block and pavers, edging for flower beds, etc.
9. Is responsible for assisting with the construction and maintenance work of the physical complex during down
times of grounds work.
10. Inspects and maintains mowing equipment including sharpening blades, oil changes, fixes or replaces flat ties to
ensure longevity.
11. When needed, works additional hours and on weekends for snow removal and special events.
12. Complies with all safety and health requirements, whether established by management or by federal, state, or
local laws.
13. Performs other duties as required by Grounds Operations Supervisor.


Qualifications


• High School diploma or equivalent
• Experience preferred
• Driver’s license with ability to obtain CDL
• Must obtain a Commercial Applicator’s License


Physical Demands


• Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Occasionally lifts up to 80lbs.
• Regularly bends, stoops, crouches, and climbs stairs.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
• Must have the capability to apply oneself physically over long periods of time.
• Uses the abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly over time without becoming
fatigued
• Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform manual labor as needed.


Expectations of Hours Worked


• 40 hours/week and on-call as required, including the ability to respond to snow emergencies.
