Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a loader and, if experienced, on an excavator as well. This position will mostly feed a crushing plant and is expected to help with other tasks as required. Approximately half or more of a year will be worked at our quarry located close to Horse Creek, Wyoming, and in the winter months, at our Firestone and Fort Lupton, Colorado locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Read, understand, and follow all company safety policies and procedures. Acts as a champion of safety.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations related to MSHA, EPA, etc.
• Inspect equipment prior to use, complete and submit daily report.
• Report all required repair work to supervisor.
• Operate equipment in a safe, professional, and efficient manner.
• Fuel, grease, check and top up fluid levels and daily maintenance.
• Change out worn ground-engaging wear parts such as bucket teeth.
• Clean unit.
• Required to use PPE.
• Self-motivated with a sense of urgency.
• An attitude of continuous improvement.
• Is at the proper location and commences work on or before assigned time.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• High attention to detail.
• Good work attendance.
• Display good communication skills including the ability to understand and follow verbal and written direction and instructions. Asks questions to clarify understanding.
• Read, understand and follow safety rules and regulations and procedures.
• Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Physical Requirements:
• Work 5 to 6 days per week (Monday thru Saturday).
• Ability to occasionally perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
• May occasionally be exposed to extreme weather conditions as well as exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel exhaust, etc.
