The Minnehaha County Highway Department is hiring a Highway Maintenance Team Member to join our team. Our experienced team of over 20 skilled operators and mechanics help keep the county's roads and bridges safe and reliable all year long. The hiring range for this position is $25.53-$28.15/hour with full earning potential of $37.83/hour.
How You Will Make an Impact
Operate basic light, medium, and heavy equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, and trucks
Perform snow and ice removal procedures, ensuring safe and timely clearing of roads and pathways during winter months
Service, repair, and replace culverts and ditches to maintain proper drainage and prevent water accumulation on roadways
Repair and maintain county roads, including patching potholes, resurfacing, and ensuring the structural integrity of the roadways
Install and repair fence wires and fence posts to secure property lines and maintain the perimeter of various areas
Use spray equipment to manage and control weeds, ensuring vegetation growth does not interfere with road maintenance and safety

What You Need to Succeed in this Role
High school diploma or GED and previous related work experience. A comparable combination of education and experience may also be considered. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with an air brake endorsement is required, and a safe driving record must be maintained. Must successful complete the pre-employment background process.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions. Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions. Knowledge of equipment, materials, and tools used in routine road construction and repair. Ability to safely and efficiently use and maintain a variety of hand tools and power tools. Knowledge of, and adherence to, safety regulations and safe work methods. Ability to respond to weather and road-related emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge of and skill in using technology and related software systems. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public. Must present a professional appearance and communicate with others in a respectful and approachable manner.
