Position Overview
Trussbilt is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Jr. Estimator with expertise in Divisions 8, 9, and 11 to join our growing team. This position will play a key role in supporting sales and project management by preparing accurate, competitive estimates for detention and commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of doors and frames (Division 8), finishes (Division 9), and equipment (Division 11) within a commercial or institutional construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and addenda to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates.
- Perform digital takeoffs and material quantifications using On-Screen Takeoff software.
- Identify scope of work across Divisions 8, 9, and 11, including hollow metal doors and frames, finishes, and detention-related equipment.
- Prepare formal quotations and coordinate with sales, engineering, and project management to ensure bid accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and lead times.
- Provide value engineering options and alternative material suggestions to improve cost and schedule efficiency.
- Track bid opportunities and assist in project transitions after award.
Qualifications
- Required: Minimum 3–5 years of estimating experience in Divisions 8, 9, and/or 11 within the construction or manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency with On-Screen Takeoff and Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and project specifications.
- Strong understanding of hollow metal standards (SDI, HMMA, ANSI) and related Division 8 materials.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with detention or security construction projects.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
