Job Description

Reports to: Human Resources Manager

Job Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist will assist with the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining employees while ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No Direct Reports

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implement new hire orientation and onboarding programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring to complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Follows all company safety and environmental policies and all federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA, FRA, EPA, DOT, and SDDANR, IADENR, MNDNR, and CODNR).
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with team members, managers, and vendors.
  • All other duties assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Bilingual speaking and listening proficiency in Spanish/English desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • At least three years of Human Resources experience preferred.
  • SHRM certification a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Position will require occasional work in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather, noise, and dust.
