Position Summary:
The HVAC Fabricator is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with HVAC fabrication and shop-related tasks under the guidance of the Fabrication Shop Manager and senior fabricators. This role focuses on learning fabrication methods, safety practices, and quality standards while contributing to efficient shop operations. The apprentice will develop foundational skills in duct and HVAC component fabrication while maintaining Midwestern Mechanical’s commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Core Functions:
- Follow all Midwestern Mechanical safety, conduct, and quality policies at all times
- Assist in the fabrication of HVAC components according to instructions, drawings, and specifications
- Learn proper use of fabrication tools, equipment, and machinery
- Support production schedules by completing assigned tasks accurately and on time
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Work with warehouse staff to obtain materials and properly handle equipment
- Use raw materials efficiently and report material needs or issues to leadership
- Communicate effectively with shop, office, and field personnel
- Participate in on-the-job training and skills development
- Perform basic layout and measuring tasks under supervision
- Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials as needed
- Occasionally assist with off-site or field-related fabrication or installation tasks as required
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Willingness to learn HVAC fabrication techniques and shop procedures
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on work
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
- Dependable, responsible, and motivated with a positive attitude
- Good organizational and housekeeping skills
- Basic communication and customer-service mindset
- Ability to work independently once trained
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Prior shop, construction, or mechanical experience preferred but not required
- Technical or vocational coursework in HVAC, manufacturing, or construction is a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when required.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces such as crawl spaces and attics.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and outdoor conditions.
- Must have adequate vision and hearing to safely perform tasks and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
