Job Description
Position Summary:
The Plumbing/HVAC Service Helper assists the Service Technicians with assembling, installation and repairing plumbing/med gas systems and HVAC systems. The systems may consist of pipes, fittings, fixtures, boilers, furnaces, air conditioners, med gas/drainage systems and roof top systems.
Core Functions:
- Assist in diagnosing problems and/or failures in a variety of HVAC systems or plumbing and gas systems.
- Repair and install various types of piping including iron, steel, copper and pvc.
- Inspect equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems.
- Operate powered equipment including hand tools, stationary machines and others as required.
- Maintain a high-quality initiative while completing assigned duties.
- Receive daily direction from supervisors on the job site and actively participate in training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and HVAC systems or willingness to learn.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
- Good communication skills for interacting with team members and customers.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read and understand safety guidelines and work orders.
- Basic math skills for measuring and calculating materials.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years of HVAC or plumbing preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when required.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces such as crawl spaces and attics.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to varying temperatures, dust, and outdoor conditions.
- Must have adequate vision and hearing to safely perform tasks and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
