The
Interlibrary Loan/ILL Systems Librarian facilitates interlibrary loan borrowing for SD libraries and state government employees. The selected candidate will process, search and verify ILL requests from a variety of libraries within South Dakota. In addition, the successful candidate will facilitate the operation of a statewide resource sharing network, monitoring systems, providing training, working with vendors and troubleshooting when needed.

Licenses and Certifications: Highly Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred: Master's Degree in Library Science
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Four years' experience in library operations, library automation, and/or systems analysis work related to development of web-based and stand-alone applications.
Knowledge of: - Networking technology protocols
- Interlibrary loan practices.
- Library metadata standards including MARC.
- Integrated library system administration.
- How to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues.
- How to configure libraries for a resource sharing network.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to make public presentations.
- Pertinent local and state government regulations that affect libraries.
- Knowledge of/experience with: z39.50, SIP2, software migration, ISO protocols for ILL.
- Library operations in implementing, testing, maintaining, and enhancing a statewide resource sharing system.
- How to analyze library applications in terms of systems and programming requirements; analyze system and operational problems and prepare recommended solutions.
- How to manage and support critical library services including configuration and maintenance of access and authentication software, including knowledge of proxy server functionality and IP address connection and resolution.
Skill to: - Work directly with vendors to implement and apply vendor-supplied software and upgrades.
- Create and maintain system and technical documentation.
- Create and maintain training documentation.
- Effectively manage projects.
- Troubleshoot technology issues.
- Organization and adherence to detail.
- Provide customer service and effective training via phone, online, and in-person.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to: - Develop custom (statistical) reports.
- Learn new technologies and adapt to change.
- Develop and document internal processes and procedures.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices related to information access and discovery and recommend improvements to existing tools and workflows.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, other agencies, and libraries.
- Troubleshoot ILL issues and answer questions from libraries and state employees.
- Prioritize workflows.
- Work in a team or independently to deliver high quality, reliable, efficient, secure software to users that meets their requirements and expectations in a timely manner.
- Provide users and colleagues quick, knowledgeable, and courteous assistance regarding software problems or information requests.
- Keep current professionally on new technologies in applications and database design, programming methods and tools, software and operating systems and testing procedures.
