Position Description:
This position will be housed under the Office of Infrastructure and Accreditation (OIA) within the South Dakota Department of Health. The intern will support the Department in its efforts to apply for initial public health accreditation. Duties may include independently and collaboratively developing public and partner awareness communications, reports, resources, trainings, program recommendations, and initiatives related to infrastructure and accreditation activities. This position will have the opportunity to engage with multiple programs within the Department, including those within the OIA such as community engagement, workforce development, quality improvement, tribal relations, and population health. Applicants should have strong written and verbal communication skills, exhibit leadership, and possess an aptitude for critical and creative thinking.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Preference will be given to applicants who have experience or coursework in public health, health promotion, nursing or other medical field, psychology, sociology, community engagement, population health, evidence-based practice, underserved populations, project management, leadership, communication, or report writing.
