Position Description:
The successful applicant will participate in the monitoring of designated cultural resource sites located on Wildlife Division lands adjacent to Lake Oahe, Lake Sharpe, Lake Francis Case, and Lewis and Clark Lake along the Missouri River in South Dakota. This work will consist of on-the-ground site visits assessing the condition of cultural sites which will include compiling written and photo documentation of natural and man-made impacts to these sites. The applicant will work with Division of Wildlife personnel but will also work closely with the private landowners and US Army Corps of Engineer and SD Archaeological Research Center archaeologists.

Assistance with other division section (Fisheries, Wildlife, Law Enforcement, and Animal Damage Control) projects will be encouraged, as time and opportunity permit. The intern may assist Region II staff with miscellaneous projects, including but not limited to, posting of signs, mowing trails and parking areas, fencing, noxious weed control, finding and locating survey markers, and miscellaneous wildlife habitat projects.

Qualifications:
We strongly desire the applicant to have specific coursework or a combination of course work and field experience in anthropology/archaeology or related field. Background with GPS and ArcGIS would be highly beneficial. It would be desirable if the applicant has participated in an archaeological field school or has had similar work experiences. Successful candidate will at times work alone in remote areas and must have the ability to navigate and travel by foot, ATV/UTV, or boat to these areas.

Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
