Minimum Salary: $19.50 per hour

*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description:
The Behavioral Health Data and Outcomes intern will primarily assist with data collection, data analysis, and reporting of key outcomes related to behavioral health services provided across the state. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and other Microsoft programs required. Knowledge of Microsoft Power BI preferred. Intern may also learn to utilize the State Treatment Activity Reporting System (STARS) to run reports and gather data relating to behavioral health services.

Interns will work with data on publicly funded behavioral health treatment to complete at least one analysis project. The subject of this project will meet the needs of DBH with considerations to the interests of the intern.

Interns will gain valuable experience from a public service career perspective as well as a deeper understanding of mental health and substance use initiatives being implemented in South Dakota's communities.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates should possess strong critical thinking and evaluation skills as well as effective communication abilities. Preference will be given to candidates with coursework or experience related to macro level behavioral health service delivery, research methods, statistics, and/or behavioral health treatment.

Applicant must be enrolled as a part time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
