Position Title: GFP Habitat Biologist Intern

Position Description:
This is an internship opportunity with the Department of Game, Fish and Parks. The Intern is responsible for assisting in the implantation of habitat management plans on game production areas in the northwest district of Region 4 in northeast South Dakota. Field duties would include, but not limited to, planting trees, grass and food plots, fencing, tree removal, mowing, assisting with prescribed fire, signing public land, noxious weed management, and native seed harvesting.
Intern will have the opportunity to learn the basic principles of habitat management and attend some external and internal trainings. Intern will be required to complete the herbicide application testing. Intern will have the opportunity to attain firefighter training and assist with wildlife surveys and bird banding. The Ideal Candidate will have education and experience, with knowledge of both habitat management techniques and the equipment used in the development of habitat for wildlife.
Qualifications:
Applicants with experience using tractors, trucks, ATVs and herbicide application equipment are preferred but not required.
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
