Position Title:Historic Preservation Intern

*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.
Position Description:
This position will involve a wide range of historic preservation experiences. The Historic Preservation Intern will update and research survey material, plan and/or conduct historic site survey(s), assist in preparing nomination for a historic property to the National Register of Historic Places, assist the office with holding a youth archaeology camp, and handle other duties as assigned.
Some travel will be required to attend meetings, conferences, conduct site surveys, and attend other preservation events around the state.
Coursework in American Indian Studies, Great Plains history, historic preservation theory & practices or research areas are desired. Working experience in museums, art galleries, especially American Indian art galleries, and any American Indian cultural or tribal educational institutions is desired. In addition, the position requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with a personal computer and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access databases is highly recommended.
Valid driver's license is required.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
