Position Description:
The Human Services internship position at the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) is intended to provide students an opportunity to work in a delivery system that provides comprehensive specialized services designed to enhance the quality of life and community inclusion for people with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Developmental Disabilities. This position will provide a structured opportunity for formal supervised experiences that span across all areas of these specialized services. These may include but are not limited to assisting case management in the development and monitoring of an Individual Support Plan, assessing, and assisting in life skills development, behavior supports under supervision, data collection, therapeutic interventions, health management in an ICF/IID settings, administrative coordination relating to Federal and State regulations governing ICF/IID facilities, internal audits, quality assurance reviews and compliance monitoring.
Eligible students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in one of the following, but not limited to fields: Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Healthcare Administration, Nursing.
Housing for students may be provided if needed.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
