Position Title: Intern - Materials and Surfacing Engineering (Three Positions)

Minimum Salary: $22.19 (Non-Engineer Students) and $24.73 (Engineer Students)

*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description: The intern will work in the Asphalt Concrete and/or the Portland Cement Concrete section of the SDDOT Central Materials lab. Perform tests on highway construction materials used on SDDOT Projects. Conduct and verify that hot mix asphalt and/or portland cement concrete mix designs meet the design criteria. Collect ground penetrating radar (GPR) data, analyze results, and generate reports for steel placement in portland cement concrete pavements. Limited travel throughout South Dakota for construction project inspections and highway construction materials testing.

Qualifications:

Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
