Position Title:Intern - Offender Admissions Coordinator

*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description:
In this position you will be working closely with the Admissions Coordinator, Chemical Dependency, Mental Health, Admissions Case Managers, and adult males incarcerated within the South Dakota State Penitentiary. While serving as a member of this team you will help interview offenders during the intake process, learn how to enter assessments, assist in the fingerprinting process, and help organize the offender tracking system.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Major or minor in Criminal Justice, Justice Administration, Corrections, or any other related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Be able to communicate clearly with others while being professional. Efficient using Word, Excel, and other Microsoft programs.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.
