Position Description:
The Park Management Intern will assist the park manager in operating the campground and leading seasonal staff in routine duties, providing essential on the job experience in the field of park management. The park is located about 30 minutes from Sioux Falls and 10 minutes from I-90. Our location combined with our diverse set of recreation offerings makes us a busy park that attracts many different user groups. Customer service, problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making are key skills interns will utilize and develop on the job. Other duties include giving work direction to campground attendant and maintenance staff, cleaning of bathrooms, rule enforcement, customer service, selling park entrance licenses, entry-level administrative processes such as bill paying, budgeting, schedule making, and processing forms, and assisting campers and park users with issues or complaints. The Park Management Intern may also be required to assist with maintenance duties such as mowing, string trimming, building maintenance, construction, repairs, and forestry. Other duties may be assigned. Much of the work is outside and as such duties may need to be performed in adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes. On-site housing may be available upon request. Night and weekend shifts are expected.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
