Position Description:
The Behavioral Health Prevention Team intern will work primarily with the prevention team to assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of prevention initiatives that promote healthy behaviors and reduce substance use. This position provides hands-on experience in public health, community engagement, and prevention services. Duties will include research and streamlining data collection across the prevention network, analyzing provider annual reports to idenfity areas of strengths and improvement, and support prevention programs focused on reducing substance use among South Dakotans. Other duties as assigned.
Interns will gain valuable experience from a public service career perspective as well as a deeper understanding of mental health, peer support services, prevention and crisis services, and substance use initiatives being implemented in South Dakota's communities.
Successful candidates should possess strong critical thinking and evaluation skills as well as effective communication abilities. Preference will be given to candidates with coursework or experience related to macro level behavioral health service delivery, research methods, statistics, and/or behavioral health treatment. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access and other Microsoft programs is needed.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
