Position Title:Intern - Rapid City Region Traffic Engineer

Position Description:
This position is part of the region traffic operations team which includes engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel. The responsibilities will include performing numerous traffic related studies and assisting with engineering recommendations based on the results of each. This position may also design specialty traffic signs, assist with troubleshooting traffic signals and take pavement marking and traffic sign retroreflectivity readings. Familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) would be helpful but is not required.
This position will also work with the paint and sign installation crews, including set up and removal of traffic control. During the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this position will operate traffic signals and be in charge of the traffic counter data collection process for the Traffic Operations Center.
Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
