*APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER.

Position Description:
An intern position at the SD Rehabilitation Center for the Blind will work as a rehabilitation teaching assistant in the vocational training and skills of blindness areas. The candidate will assist the Employment Skills Instructor with teaching techniques related to work which often includes teaching computer skills such as answering programming questions for Microsoft Office or typing skills. Also, may be required to assist in the adaptive skills of blindness areas to assist individuals with vision loss to improve independence. The ideal candidate for this position is a person who is interested in special education, human services, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or adult education. Experience working with people with disabilities is beneficial, but not required.

Qualifications:
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.

All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions. Consideration will be given to those with specific coursework in the following areas: rehabilitation counseling, special education, social work, psychology, counseling, adult education, and/or knowledge of blindness or disabilities. The candidate needs to have computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
