The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation is hiring an Internal Auditor II to join their Administrative Services team.

The Administrative Services division is seeking an analytical, detail-oriented individual to serve as the Department's internal auditor. This position systematically reviews transactions and spending patterns to detect financial errors and assist staff in the division in them getting corrected. Additionally, this position will monitor financial aspects of Department subrecipients. This position will also be responsible for management of the Department's contracts, including working with department staff and potential vendors on the drafting process (no legal expertise required).

The preferred location for this position is in Pierre but may be filled at the following DLR Job Service locations: Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Yankton, Madison, Aberdeen, or Huron.

Travel may be needed 1-4 times per year as necessary for training and meetings.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting and 4 years' experience in government accounting or auditing.

Knowledge of:
  • Federal Uniform Grant Guidance (2 CFR 200);
  • State of South Dakota accounting policies and procedures;
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
  • Microsoft Excel formulas, tables, and pivot tables.

Skill to:
  • review detailed reports and detect anomalies;
  • navigate and utilize multiple computer applications in order to complete analyses;
  • utilize virtual video software (Microsoft Teams);
  • remain organized when given multiple tasks or items needing to be completed in a day.

Ability to:
  • work independently with minimal supervision, yet seek guidance with questions or concerns;
  • communicate information and guidance to individuals or multiple people in a cordial and professional manner;
  • organize tasks and duties to ensure all are completed timely;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and staff within and outside of DLR;
  • recognize and evaluate problems, and recommend sound solutions;
  • develop self to expand own knowledge and apply it.
