HOURS: On-call (“0–29 hours/week”) with flexible scheduling—ideal for working professionals, students, retirees, or part-time seekers.
SALARY: Variable, based on appointment.
LOCATION Requirements:
This is an in-person, on-site position, at the Multi-Cultural Center.
Applicants must reside in the Sioux Falls, SD metropolitan area

LANGUAGES: Candidates must read and speak fluently in one or more of the following: French, Russian, Ukrainian, Pashto, Urdu, Dari, Farsi, Swahili, Kinyaruanda, Kunama and Kibembe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide professional in-person interpretation (verbal and/or written) across the Sioux Falls area
Conduct pre-session communications with clients and non-English speakers
Receive and review session briefings prior to interpreting
Deliver real-time, face-to-face interpretation, accurately translating spoken statements both ways
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must meet all requirements to be qualified to apply for this position.
- Residency near the Sioux Falls, SD area is required.
- Requires updated vaccination and medical examinations to be eligible for medical interpretation assignments.
- Must have bi-lingual skills.
- Fluent in written and verbal English and the target language
- Minimum: High School diploma or GED, or equivalent education/experience
- Active listening skills to interpret intent and context effectively
- Professional demeanor, respectful of cultural differences and special needs
- Specific experience prioritized in: Ukrainian, Russian, Swahili, Kunama; other languages encouraged
- Must complete all necessary background checks, including criminal history screenings, criminal convictions of behavior harmful towards children, spousal abuse, distributing drugs or sex crimes
- Up-to-date on vaccinations and medical exams (for medical interpretation assignments)
- At least 18 years old
- Must have valid driver’s license and auto insurance, or ability to obtain approved driver status
