The Legislative Research Council, which is the nonpartisan research and support staff to the South Dakota State Legislature, is accepting applications for a permanent full-time
IT Support Specialist. This position will be based in and work from Pierre.
Duties and Responsibilities: The IT Support Specialist is the primary IT service desk position of the Legislative Research Council. Significant duties of this position include the following:
- Provide technical support, service desk coverage, and tier 1 systems administration in a hybrid IT environment, which includes Windows and iOS;
- Serve as the primary IT point of contact for inquiries and requests for technical assistance, and escalate advanced issues to other IT team members as necessary;
- Set up, install, configure, and maintain individual workstations, peripherals, components, software, network printers, and VOIP phones;
- Create and maintain end-user documentation for utilizing hardware and software products, and present training as needed;
- Track inventory of information technology equipment; and
- Assist with IT projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management information systems, business administration, or a related field;
- Proficient understanding of general computer software and hardware installation, configuration, support, and maintenance;
- The ability to master the use of unfamiliar hardware and software quickly, accurately, and effectively, through use of documentation and without extensive training;
- Expertise in using and troubleshooting computers running Microsoft products and Apple iOS devices;
- The ability to clearly communicate technical solutions and instructions to a non-technical audience both orally and in writing;
- Willingness and ability to work extra hours during legislative session (employees earn compensation time for extra hours worked);
- The ability to maintain composure and work cooperatively under pressure while assisting legislators and legislative staff; and
- The ability to remain objective and nonpartisan in relations to all legislative matters, maintain confidentiality, and handle politically sensitive work.
Salary Range: The salary will range from $59,000 to $69,000. Actual starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
