JOURNEYMAN/CONTRACTOR PLUMBER
SOUTH DAKOTA HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

Hiring Incentive of $2,000 offered

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm

DESCRIPTION: Primarily responsible for properly training and supervising inmates on plumbing and HVAC systems for the Governor’s Houses in South Dakota. This position will motivate, train and supervise inmates as they work. The Governor’s House Program is a program funded by SDHDA, in which prison inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison build low-cost, low-maintenance, energy efficient homes to income qualified individuals and families.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate must possess excellent customer service and trade experience; knowledge of plumbing compliancy and on-the-job safety experience; be able to inspect plumbing and HVAC work performed; be knowledgeable in general residential construction and have the ability to operate construction related machinery; work with a variety of clients; understand basic math functions and calculations; the ability to lift and carry heavy objects; and the ability to communicate professionally.

Successful candidate must have a minimum of a two-year plumbing degree, two years of related work experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must carry a journeymen license and either have or have the ability to obtain their contractor’s license. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and pass an extensive background check for SD Department of Corrections.

LOCATION: Mike Durfee State Prison, Springfield, SD

STARTING SALARY: Positioned near $30.00 per hour, with increases for additional qualifications and experience.
