Lead Stock Clerk
Job Summary
The Lead Stock Clerk plays a key role in supporting daily store operations in a natural and organic grocery environment. This position ensures product freshness, accurate inventory flow, and high store standards while supporting multiple departments. The Lead Stock Clerk leads by example, promotes excellent customer service, and supports the store’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and community values.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Stocking Operations
· Perform and oversee daily date checks to ensure product freshness, food safety, and compliance with natural and organic standards.
· Receive, unload, and efficiently work freight from delivery trucks.
· Stock shelves and rotate products using FIFO practices to maintain quality and reduce shrink.
· Organize and maintain backstock areas for accuracy, accessibility, and cleanliness.
· Communicate out-of-stocks, low inventory, and product quality concerns to store leadership.
Department Support
· Assist the Bulk Department with stocking, labeling, weighing, and maintaining sanitation and food safety standards.
· Support daily and weekly cleaning checklists to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming store environment.
· Aid other departments as needed to maintain smooth store operations.
Customer Service & Cashiering
· Serve as a cashier and act as the first line of defense by monitoring transactions, preventing loss, and ensuring policy compliance.
· Provide knowledgeable, friendly service, including assisting customers with questions about natural, organic, and specialty products.
· Support a positive checkout experience aligned with the store’s customer-first values.
Leadership & Team Collaboration
· Lead by example and assist in training team members on proper stocking, safety, and food-handling procedures.
· Collaborate with department leads and store leadership to prioritize daily tasks and workflow.
· Uphold and promote the store’s mission, sustainability practices, and commitment to high-quality natural and organic products.
Qualifications
· Previous experience in a natural foods, grocery, or retail environment preferred.
· Knowledge of or interest in natural, organic, and specialty foods.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Ability to lift and move merchandise up to [insert weight requirement].
· Comfortable operating a POS system and handling cash accurately.
· Attention to detail, especially with product dating, rotation, and cleanliness.
· Strong communication skills and a team-oriented, customer-focused approach.
