Hughes County is looking for a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Hughes County Jail in Pierre. This position includes some weekends/some holidays.
POSITION TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Under supervision of an RN, provides direct patient care in accordance with established policies and protocols.
- Assists RNs and Care Providers with procedures, medication administration, phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
- Assesses patient's physical and psychological condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care.
- Documents patient's medical status throughout the patient's course of treatment.
- The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care for a diverse group of patients.
- Hughes County Jail employs a high level of security, to ensure personal and institutional safety.
- Environmental awareness, critical thinking and decisive decision-making skills are required in the correctional setting.
- Ability to problem solve and work independently are required.
- Unique opportunity to work in an urgent care type environment and use a variety of nursing skills and critical thinking.
- Performs other work as assigned.
What We Require:
- Graduation from an accredited educational institution possessing a Licensed Practical Nurse degree.
- Must have LPN licensed from State of South Dakota.
- Possession of a valid South Dakota Driver’s License.
- Background check and pre-employment drug screen before hire.
- CPR Certified
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.
