This position is for a Program Assistant 1 for the South Dakota Board of Nursing. The Program Assistant 1 independently implements work processes and develops procedures for assigned work including helping nursing assistive personnel to complete application procedures within limits set by program professionals; making choices within specified acceptable standards and practices. The Program Assistant 1 must be able to communicate and ask pertinent questions to determine whether an applicant meets the criteria for registration; and to problem-solve, inform and educate others to clarify program intent and guidelines on the steps and actions others must take to complete application requirements; this individual speaks on behalf of nursing program professionals for whom he or she provides assistance. The impact of work done is primarily internal, this individual will be responsible for recording statistics, compiling data for reports, monitoring deadlines and other time factors, monitoring compliance with program guidelines to ensure all required steps and documentation are completed.

This individual will work with the management and development of the unlicensed registry databases to issue registration status for individuals under the jurisdiction of the Board of Nursing. This involves working with the licensure operations manager and software developers to implement the licensure database system and responsibility to monitor and verify compliance with registration requirements and to resolve applicant or employer problems. The Program Assistant 1 will select and compile data into reports regarding the registration of trained unlicensed personnel for the Board of Nursing and will answer requests for information, provide informational material, and assist professional staff to conduct presentations.

Licenses and Certifications:
This position requires graduation from high school or achievement of a GED certificate.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Post high school education and experience with computer technology enabling the candidate to work with various computer applications and to develop data systems for monitoring compliance with requirements for registration and licensure of individuals regulated by the Board of Nursing. This includes working with software developers to build and test the data system.

Knowledge of:

  • English, grammar, and spelling;
  • computer program software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, databases;
  • basic mathematics.
