The South Dakota Brand Board is seeking an individual who is professional and motivated with integrity and experience working with livestock for the position of
Livestock Brand Inspector/Enforcement Officer . The SD Brand Board administers the Livestock Ownership Inspection program and the Livestock Brand Registration program. The livestock inspection area in SD is west of the Missouri River and on average, SD brand inspectors inspect 1.5 million head of livestock/year for ownership. Brand laws apply statewide. The Livestock Brand Inspector/Enforcement Officer serves an essential role in enforcing the Livestock Brand and Ownership Inspection laws, educating the public on these laws, and works closely with other Brand Board staff, Sheriffs' departments, and Brand Enforcement Divisions of other states.

Licenses and Certifications: South Dakota Certified Law Enforcement or the ability to obtain South Dakota law enforcement certification within one year of employment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- understanding of the Livestock Brand and Livestock Ownership Inspection laws
- knowledge of livestock brands, livestock handling, and agriculture
- ability to communicate information clearly and concisely
- investigation and law enforcement experience is recommended but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- knowledge of SD livestock ownership inspection program
- ability to inspect livestock
- conduct investigations, interviews, and gather pertinent information
- prepare complete and accurate case reports
- respond quickly and effectively to assist local law enforcement on reports of missing/stolen livestock
- work effectively in a face-paced environment
- tactfully communicate orally and in written communications with the public
- organize and effectively manage multiple tasks
- ability to work in all weather conditions with frequent travel
- establish and maintain effective working relationships
- experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
