The Loan Officer serves as the primary analyst and point of contract for underwriting, packaging, and presenting applications to GOED's loan programs. Working closely with colleagues, applicants, and lenders around the state, you will be on the leading edge of South Dakota's economic development efforts.
This position evaluates the substantive merits of loan applications and provides a recommended funding decision on the basis of the project's merits to include; impact to South Dakota's local, regional, and state economy; creditworthiness; need; risks; collateral; and loan structure. The loan officer will present recommendations in both written and oral form to a variety of levels of approval within the agency, as well as to the Board of Economic Development and the Economic Development Finance Authority.
Loan officers at GOED work with financial spreading software to enter and analyze financial data for business applicants and for existing borrowers. Findings are presented first to internal committee and subsequently to the respective Board or Authority. Loan officers must maintain and monitor existing files while working with the partnering lenders on structures, analysis, funding, closing, and servicing closed loans.
The position must interpret and apply State and Federal rules and regulations to ensure the selected loan program meets the needs of the project. In addition to loan officer duties, this position may assist with other duties at GOED that are commensurate with organizational needs, requirements, and which contribute to the success of GOED and the State of South Dakota.
Occasional overnight travel required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field combined with 1-3 years of practical credit analysis experience is preferred. Applicant's with an associate's degree combined with relevant experience, and/or applicant's possessing good working knowledge and relevant practical application and experience will be considered. Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Prior experience with commercial lending and/or agricultural lending is beneficial.

- data storage and organization tactics.
Skill to: - distinguish between high and low priority items;
- make decisions under pressure and time constraints;
- work with applicants, other lenders; and economic development partners;
- integrate disparate information into clear, concise recommendations for GOED management and oversight boards.
Ability to: - comprehend and apply pertinent laws, rules and policies;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
- facilitate decision making;
- work well as a team and individually.
