About the Role
Black Tie Components is looking for an experienced, dependable Logistics Specialist — Driver to join our team in Hartford, South Dakota.
This role is responsible for safely delivering trusses, wall panels, and building materials to customer job sites, lumberyards, and dealers. In many cases, our drivers are the final Black Tie team member our customers interact with, making professionalism, communication, and safe delivery especially important.
The Logistics Specialist — Driver is responsible for getting long, heavy, and oversized building components to the job site safely, on time, complete, and undamaged, while also helping ensure materials are properly offloaded and ready for the customer to use.
Responsibilities
The Logistics Specialist — Driver will be responsible for:
- Safely operating company trucks and trailers to deliver trusses, wall panels, and building materials
- Completing DOT-required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and DVIRs
- Verifying load contents against the load list and current design package before leaving the yard
- Confirming loads are properly secured before departure and after stops
- Operating truck-mounted forklifts, boom equipment, or knuckle-boom equipment when required
- Coordinating customer-provided offloading when applicable
- Assessing job-site access, ground conditions, overhead power lines, and offload safety before unloading
- Stopping and escalating unsafe conditions rather than proceeding
- Maintaining hours-of-service records, delivery documentation, signed receipts, and shortage or damage reports
- Communicating delays, access issues, product concerns, and delivery issues promptly to the Logistics Supervisor
- Maintaining CDL, DOT medical certification, and driver qualification requirements
- Complying with company drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Performing daily equipment checks, including fluids, tires, lights, straps, and general cleanliness
- Reporting equipment or maintenance issues promptly
- Supporting yard, staging, and loading work between delivery routes
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
- A valid Class A CDL
- An acceptable motor vehicle record
- Current DOT medical certification
- 2+ years of commercial driving experience
- Working knowledge of DOT hours-of-service, inspection, and cargo-securement requirements
- Experience securing long, heavy, or oversized freight
- The ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
- The ability and willingness to work outdoors in seasonal weather
- The ability to pass and maintain DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Strong communication skills and a professional attitude when working with customers
Preferred Experience
Experience with the following is preferred but not required:
- Flatbed or step-deck driving
- Delivering trusses, wall panels, lumber, or building materials to active construction sites
- Truck-mounted forklift or Moffett operation
- Princeton-type forklifts
- Knuckle-boom or crane-assisted offloading
- Forklift or powered-industrial-truck certification
- A clean CSA record with no preventable accidents in the last three years
Work Environment
This position involves both commercial driving and physical work at customer job sites.
Drivers should expect extended periods of driving as well as frequent climbing on and off trucks and trailers, handling straps, chains, tarps, and dunnage, and assisting with load securement and offloading.
This role operates year-round in South Dakota and surrounding areas and may involve heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, uneven ground, active construction sites, overhead hazards, and moving equipment.
Personal protective equipment, including high-visibility apparel and fall-protection equipment where required, must be used in accordance with DOT, customer-site, and company safety requirements.
Travel
This position includes daily local and regional delivery travel throughout South Dakota and adjoining states.
Home nightly in most cases.
