Safety & Therapeutic Environmental Supervisor/Maintenance Supervisor

Primary objective

Repair, replace, fix, construct, and maintain the grounds on Aurora Plains Academy with the goal of providing a safe and pleasant living and working environment for the residents, staff, and visitors of Aurora Plains Academy.

Essential job functions:

  1. Perform and complete building and grounds repair and maintenance on Aurora Plains Academy’s campus.
  2. Assist and meet with project managers.
  3. Perform equipment, furniture, floor, wall and ceiling repairs.
  4. Perform electrical and plumbing repairs.
  5. Boiler operation and familiarity and appropriate certifications.
  6. Remodel and update prioritized areas of the building or related properties.
  7. Perform preventive maintenance programs as outlined by Executive Director.
  8. Acquire any needed certifications for Aurora Plains Academy, ensuring maintenance personnel to have their current certifications.
  9. Respond to all fire alarms, emergencies, weather alerts and perform necessary duties.
  10. Perform service and maintenance of Aurora Plains Academy vehicles, including registrations and licensing.
  11. Perform snow removal as assigned and perform grounds landscaping.
  12. Ensure safety and security of buildings and campus.
  13. Cover custodial duties due to vacations, sickness, etc. and assign duties to maintenance personnel to perform whenever needed as scheduled.
  14. Assist staff in conducting authorized building and grounds searches as needed.
  15. Experience in all phases of building repair and related equipment repair.
  16. Ability to perform carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing and other duties.
  17. Communicate effectively and tactfully.
  18. Ability to paint and complete repairs using ladders and scaffold on all height levels of Aurora Plains Academy buildings and houses.
  19. Various custodial duties as assigned.
  20. At all times represent Aurora Plains Academy in a positive and professional manner.
  21. Comply with all policies, rules and regulations established by Aurora Plains Academy as a condition of employment.
  22. Completes other tasks and duties as assigned

Non-essential job functions:

  1. Willing to take suggestions and learn new products and techniques.
  2. Completes other tasks and duties as assigned.

Experience: Some experience required; prefer individuals with experience working in electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, including but not limited to maintenance duties.

Supervisory responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and supervise the work of maintenance technicians
  2. Inspect facilities, equipment, and systems to identify any issues or potential problems
  3. Develop maintenance schedules and enforce them among team members
  4. Organize and manage equipment repair and maintenance work, ensuring that it is completed in a timely and efficient manner
  5. Carry out regular preventative maintenance to prevent breakdowns and failures
  6. Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring new team members
  7. Ensure that all maintenance work meets safety standards and complies with company policies
  8. Document all maintenance and repair work and maintain records of all maintenance activities
  9. Order and maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment
  10. Communicate with other departments, such as production or quality control, to coordinate work and schedule maintenance activities

Qualifications:

  1. A staff member must be 21 years of age.
  2. May not have a substantiated report of child abuse or neglect.
  3. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Must have excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  5. Must be able to operate knowledgably various equipment.
  6. Must be flexible and be willing to adjust to changes with little to no notice. This includes schedule changes, job duty changes, weather permitting, and etc.
  7. Ability to lift 50 lbs independently, 100 lbs using team lifting techniques.
  8. The physical requires one be able to work in a fast paced environment, continuously stand on his or her feet for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting, climbing and twisting.

Manual dexterity is required.
  2. Work Environment: Outdoor temperature may be uncomfortable due to weather. Must be able to communicate effectively; during all times must communicate clearly. Job hazards include slips, falls, and some injuries may occur; using caution is a must.
