Salary/Grade: $15.35 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience

Performs general building maintenance tasks in the areas of general electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding/fabrication, landscaping/yard care, and general building maintenance and repair to provide for the continued, safe, and efficient operation of correctional facilities and associated areas.

Duties Include:
  • Apply basic fixes to equipment and building systems.
  • Repairs or replaces various types of electrical appliances, perform basic plumbing, interior and exterior painting, general maintenance of security camera systems, landscaping, yard upkeep, and maintaining underground sprinkler systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and safety inspections to identify and address any deficiencies in general equipment, check safety systems and security functions.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • May require possession of or the ability to obtain a valid driver's license.
  • Must successfully complete corrections basic training (approximately 3 weeks of classroom training).

Knowledge of:
  • the methods and practices of general building or facility maintenance;
  • building construction;
  • tools and equipment associated with the tasks of the position;
  • the specific trade area associated with the duties of the position.

Ability to:
  • communicate information clearly and concisely;

  • follow instructions;
  • direct the activities of others;
  • complete delegated tasks;
  • operate required power tools and equipment;
  • lift 50 pounds or more;
  • dexterity and physical;
  • work from ladders; or in confined areas.
  • operate plumbing tools;
  • clean and unplug drains and pipes;
  • deal tactfully and work effectively with offenders and correctional staff.
