Our Corporate office in Sioux Falls, SD, has an immediate opening for a Food Science professional. This position is a leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of applying scientific principles to the development, production, safety, and quality of food products. Key duties include leading research and development (R&D), ensuring food safety and regulatory compliance, developing food formulations, troubleshooting production issues, and collaborating with suppliers and other stakeholders to drive innovation and improve production and quality results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research & Development:
- Technical Expertise:
Directing experiments, developing new procedures and technologies, and staying informed about new ingredient technologies.
Providing scientific guidance on ingredient functionality, production processes, and troubleshooting formulation challenges and managing technical issues with customers. Provide guidance to plant management on formulations.
Prepare product labeling and assist Sales team with marketing materials. Responsible for customer compliance audits such as SMETA Five Pillars.
Work with and train QA teams and leadership on existing and changes to regulations, both state and federal. Monitor changes and educate all internal staff. Prepare and submit regulatory documents.
Working directly with Sales team on customer product requirements include building specifications, nutritional labels and product labels. Support QA teams as needed with audits.
Working with various internal and external partners, including industry researchers, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and regulatory bodies.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
