Meat Manager

Location: Rock Valley, IA

Schedule: Full-time
Approximately 40–45 hours per week
Primarily daytime shifts with weekend availability required

Salary Range: $24–$26 per hour, depending on experience, with opportunity for performance bonus

Cota Coaching & Consulting is recruiting on behalf of Sunshine Foods, a community-focused grocery retailer serving customers across the Midwest. Sunshine Foods stores are known for fresh products, friendly service, and teams that take pride in supporting their local communities. This role is based at the Rock Valley, Iowa location.

The Role

The Meat Manager oversees the daily operations of the meat department, ensuring customers have access to fresh, high-quality products and knowledgeable service. This role combines hands-on meat cutting with department leadership, merchandising, and inventory management. You’ll supervise a small team, maintain food safety standards, and help ensure the department operates efficiently.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the meat department

  • Cut, trim, grind, and prepare meat products while maintaining high quality and food safety standards

  • Ensure products are properly packaged, labeled, priced, and displayed

  • Monitor product freshness, rotation, and shrink to maintain department quality

  • Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and cooking recommendations

  • Supervise and support department team members, including training and daily task coordination

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe department environment

  • Build attractive product displays and support store promotions

What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a retail meat cutter or in a grocery meat department

  • Strong knowledge of meat cuts and preparation methods

  • Ability to safely operate meat department equipment such as saws, grinders, and slicers

  • Experience maintaining food safety and sanitation standards

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to supervise or coordinate the work of a small team

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a refrigerated environment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with assistance

  • Reliable availability for full-time retail scheduling, including weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior leadership or department management experience a plus

  • Experience with ordering and inventory management in a grocery or food retail environment

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience building product displays or merchandising fresh food departments
