The South Dakota Department of Health is hiring a full time Inspector for the Medical Cannabis Program.
The Medical Cannabis Inspector is responsible for conducting onsite inspections, investigations, and responding to complaints and statutory violations. This role provides technical assistance to establishments, ensures compliance with state regulations, and supports program development and evaluation. The Inspector represents the Medical Cannabis Program with professionalism and integrity while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
Essential duties are:
- Conduct onsite inspections and investigations of licensed establishments.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records.
- Respond to complaints and potential statutory violations.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to establishment owners and staff.
- Collaborate with team members and external stakeholders to ensure program compliance.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating program operations.
Travel and get paid per diem, as well as the use of a state vehicle while on the road. This position is located in the Pierre/Rapid City area. Come join us!
Incumbent will be required to conduct inspections in medical cannabis establishments which includes the ability to climb a flight of stairs, ability to lift up to 20lbs, and ability to be on feet for up to 8 hours per day. Frequent in-state travel and overnight stays may be required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:- Preference may be given to candidates who possess a bachelor's degree in public health, regulatory compliance, or a related field.
- Experience working with the public and enforcement of regulations is preferred.
- Experience working in or with government entities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of:
- State and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to medical cannabis.
- Computer systems and applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Ability to:
- Interpret and explain regulations and requirements.
- Write clear, descriptive reports following inspections.
- Use investigative techniques and conduct effective interviews.
- Exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions.
- Organize and maintain accurate records.
- Manage time effectively and prioritize workload.
- Maintain objectivity and professionalism.
- Continuously develop knowledge and share expertise with others.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
