Summary:

The South Dakota Human Services Center is posting an opening in their Laboratory department. This position is for an average of 20 hours per week (dayshift, weekdays) and includes taking call approximately one out of every five weeks. Description of tasks:

  • Collect blood samples from clients in all treatment areas.
  • Perform general maintenance on laboratory analyzers and general laboratory equipment.
  • Run quality control samples on test systems per policy and ensure proper functioning of analyzers.
  • Process and package patient samples for sending out to reference laboratory testing
  • Perform CLIA Waived and CLIA Moderately complex laboratory testing in the areas of hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis.


Licenses and Certifications:

At least a 2-yr degree from an accredited program in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field

Knowledge of:

  • standard laboratory practices, including all aspects of quality control, proficiency testing, and analyzer maintenance;
  • operation of laboratory analyzers in use in the HSC Laboratory, or ability to learn operation of these analyzers, to provide accurate, timely test results.


Skill to:

perform phlebotomy to provide quality blood samples for testing.

Ability to:

  • maintain strict patient confidentiality;
  • provide compassionate care and accommodation to patients in challenging situations.


This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
