Job Description

Summary:

This individual is responsible for the administration of medication to each resident along with documentation in required areas. Responsible for observing symptoms and responses to medications and for reporting such to the charge nurse. This person will be responsible for performing duties underlined in the Nursing Assistant job description also.

Essential Duties:

Administer oral medications such as capsules, tablets, liquids and topical medications such as eye drops, ear drops, nose drops, ointments, and other skin preparations, and rectal suppositories.

Takes and records vital signs. Records and reports any observations and changes in resident’s condition to the charge nurse.

Responsible in notifying charge nurse regarding med errors. Including, but not limited to, reporting to the nurse that a medication is not available for use and following facility procedure to obtain the medication.

Must be able to provide reports to subsequent shift with briefs on resident’s medications and changes in resident’s condition.

Notifies the charge nurse of any significant observations and changes in resident’s condition.

Maintains the medication room and the medication system in a clean, orderly manner during shift.

Respiratory treatment to residents per order.

Complete monthly summaries with nurse co-sign signature.

Finger stick blood sugar with training and instruction.

All entries in resident’s chart must be co-signed by charge nurse.

Other duties as assigned.

Keep all knowledge of residents confidential.

Working Conditions:

Must be in good physical and mental condition.

Sits, stands, bends, stoops, crouches, kneels, and walks intermittently during the work day.

Ability to lift residents, move equipment, and perform ADL cares.
