Job Description
  1. Purpose:
    1. Provide for the residents’ a positive relationship that will allow them the opportunity to practice what they are learning in the program with a safe caring adult.
  2. Qualifications:

  5. Responsible To: Assigned supervisor
  6. Hours and Schedule: Mentor should plan for 2 hours nightly and 8 hours per the weekend.
  7. Principal Accountabilities
  8. Maintain thorough and timely documentation
  1. Supervision of residents and resident activities, including but not limited to:

  1. Supervision and guidance regarding the youth’s use of technology and the internet. This will include monitoring internet usage to ensure that online activities remain appropriate, safe, and consistent with household or program expectations. Staff will provide education on responsible digital behavior, appropriate boundaries in online interactions, and strategies for making safe choices while using electronic devices. When needed, the staff member will redirect the youth from inappropriate content or activities and reinforce expectations regarding healthy and responsible technology use
  2. The staff member will provide direct skill-building support to help the youth develop and strengthen independent living skills necessary for daily functioning. This will include hands-on instruction and modeling of age-appropriate household tasks such as properly cleaning living spaces (e.g., maintaining personal bedroom areas, completing basic household cleaning tasks, and understanding expectations for sanitation and organization), preparing simple and safe meals, and completing routine chores. The staff member will support the youth in learning how to follow step-by-step instructions, develop task completion skills, and build consistency in maintaining personal and shared responsibilities within the home environment.
  3. In addition to practical life skills, the staff member will work with the youth on behavioral skill development. This will include coaching and reinforcement related to following directions from caregivers or staff, improving compliance with expectations, and strengthening the ability to delay gratification. The youth will be supported in developing patience, impulse control, and the ability to tolerate waiting for rewards or preferred activities. Staff will utilize prompting, modeling, positive reinforcement, and corrective feedback to encourage appropriate behavior and help the youth practice these skills in real-life situations.
  4. Communication with other program staff and supervisors concerning problems noted and anticipated problematic situations.
  5. Participate with resident and provide leadership in activities and details.
