This is a full-time position with the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications - South Dakota Public Broadcasting (SDPB). For more information on SDPB, please vision https://www.sdpb.org/ .

SDPB is a statewide, joint radio and television network, that is also South Dakota's NPR and PBS affiliates. We seek an energetic, organized and goal-focused professional journalist to host local segments of NPR's signature news program Morning Edition Monday through Friday 6-9 AM central time and other daily newscasts (recorded). This position will also help produce daily news content and feature reporting. This position is a high profile member of the SDPB Journalism team and will make daily news decisions for a discerning audience that appreciates and supports good and ethical local story telling.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

a degree in journalism or media studies and 2-3 years of hands-on experience in news production, reporting, and storytelling. A deep knowledge of South Dakota and its newsmakers is a plus.

We're seeking someone who:
  • has strong news judgment and a clear, conversational on-air delivery;
  • can produce well-researched news features and conduct meaningful interviews;
  • is confident stacking newscasts and navigating fast-paced news cycles;
  • has strong writing and editing skills for both audio and digital platforms;
  • can independently capture and produce audio stories, from field to final mix;
  • thrives working both solo and as part of a collaborative team.


Professionalism, objectivity, and reliability are essential-especially for completing a daily live radio shift with personality and integrity.

Knowledge of:
  • latest tools and best practices on audio production using Adobe products or equivalent; and,
  • live radio technology running own board.


Skill to:

  • be an objective news writer and news reader; and,
  • effectively problem solve.


Ability to:

  • work with News Interns, handle news assignments for quick turn around, and assist with editing copy for broadcast and online presentations;
  • know a story when you see it;
  • edit audio and video to create feature stories;
  • learn and adapt as markets and audience behaviors shift;
  • consistently produce results under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
  • use lighting equipment for video interview; operate video camera and production equipment;
  • find innovative ways to push boundaries of the format; and,
  • travel overnight and across the state.
