West River Mental Health is accepting applications for a Nurse Supervisor to join our Nursing team. This position provides overall management of the CNP and nursing team and assists with medical protocols, procedures, and training for the agency. The Charge Nurse will oversee direct patient care, ensuring client care issues are addressed. This position requires a CNP or RN in the state of South Dakota with five years of human service experience. Psychiatric and supervisory experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Promote WRMH mission, philosophy, code of ethics, vision, principles, and chosen values to support a positive working environment and continuous quality improvement among staff.
  2. Provide daily supervision and train staff on policies and procedures, paperwork compliance, ethics, services outcomes, programs, and client services related to clinical practices and quality assurance.
  3. Coordinate and manage monthly schedule and ensure shifts are properly covered. Assist with shift coverage as needed. Be flexible to work different hours to ensure continuity among shift.
  4. Evaluate staff performance and provide corrective measures as necessary.
  5. Contribute to the development of others within the team through supervision, mentoring, and positive role modelling.
  6. Assist in evaluation and assessment of client needs and care.
  7. Provide direct assistance or collaborate with team or referral provider to ensure client obtains the basic necessities of daily life and appropriate medical care.
  8. Provide or coordinate staff training to include CPR, first aid, and medication management.
  9. Order medications as prescribed. Assist with the administration of prescription and nonprescription medication. Instruct clients in self administration of medication.
  10. Document client activity in chart as required by company operating procedure.
  11. Maintain and monitor procedures and practices for administering and storage of medications.
  12. Maintain compliance with all applicable practice standards, guidelines, and HIPAA requirements.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Thorough knowledge of medical protocols as it relates to mental illness.
  2. Knowledge of community resources and ability to network and develop relationships with community leaders.
  3. Knowledge of and skill in using computer keyboard for typing.
  4. Knowledge of and skill in administering CPR, first aid and medication management
  5. Ability to maintain a South Dakota Registered Nurse License.
  6. Ability to respond to clients by phone and face to face in emergency situations.
  7. Ability to interact professionally with clients and customers.
  8. Ability to sit to type on computer keyboard for short to moderate lengths of time.
  9. Ability to maintain a South Dakota driver’s license and vehicle liability insurance and safely operate a vehicle in all weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

CNP or Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota. Five years of human service experience. Psychiatric and supervisory experience preferred.
