The South Dakota Attorney General's Office is seeking a highly organized and motivated Office Manager to support the daily operations of our mission-driven agency. This position plays a key leadership role in coordinating administrative functions, supporting attorneys and professional staff, and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the office.
Key Responsibilities - Oversee and coordinate administrative operations, including scheduling, correspondence, records management, and reception activities.
- Supervise administrative support staff, including participation in hiring, training, performance management, and workload distribution.
- Discuss job performance problems with employees to identify causes and develop plans to resolve issues.
- Manage office workflow to support litigation and program operations.
- Serve as the main point of contact for internal administrative matters, office maintenance needs, equipment issues, and vendor coordination.
- Assist with document preparation, filing, and related administrative tasks.
- Oversee procurement of office supplies, technology, and services in compliance with state procurement rules.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with state retention requirements and confidentiality standards.
- Ensure office compliance with internal policies, statewide administrative rules, and Attorney General procedures.
- Foster a respectful, professional, and efficient work environment aligned with the mission of the Attorney General's Office.
- Coordinating attorneys swearing into state and federal courts.
- Manage service contracts with federal courts.
- Manage bar membership and certificates of good standing for all ATG attorneys.
- Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form for legal office.
The Ideal Candidate will have: - A minimum of three years of experience in office management or administrative leadership; experience in a legal or government setting strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with office software, case management systems, and state administrative platforms.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, problem-solving ability, initiative and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures is helpful but not required.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
