We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical team. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and takes pride in delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you'll work alongside physicians, technicians, nurses, and staff across multiple subspecialties, helping ensure our patients receive excellent care at every step of their visit.

Position Overview

The Ophthalmic Float Technician plays a vital role in supporting patient care throughout the clinic. This position assists with patient evaluations, diagnostic testing, documentation, minor procedures, and patient education while maintaining efficient patient flow and a positive experience for patients and providers. The Float Technician must be comfortable adapting to different physicians, clinic locations, and subspecialties as needed.

What You'll Do

Support Exceptional Patient Care

  • Welcome patients with professionalism, compassion, and a positive attitude.
  • Collect and document patient histories and clinical information accurately.
  • Explain testing and examination procedures to patients.
  • Address patient concerns and help create a comfortable experience throughout the visit.
  • Educate patients regarding procedures, medications, and physician instructions as directed.

Perform Clinical and Diagnostic Responsibilities

  • Conduct ophthalmic screenings and assessments.
  • Administer eye drops and medications as directed by physicians.
  • Assist physicians during minor office procedures using proper sterile technique.
  • Assist with specimen collection processes and documentation.
  • Ensure exam rooms, equipment, and supplies are prepared and maintained for patient care.

Maintain Accuracy and Efficiency

  • Document patient information accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Navigate scheduling and patient records within the EMR.
  • Follow physician-specific workflows and subspecialty protocols.
  • Verify medication and supply expiration dates and maintain an organized clinical environment.
  • Assist with phone calls and patient inquiries within scope of practice.

Support Team Success

  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, technicians, nurses, and administrative staff.
  • Travel to satellite clinic locations as needed.
  • Maintain professional competencies through ongoing learning and training.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and exceptional service.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to travel to satellite clinic locations as needed.
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.

Preferred

  • Ophthalmic experience.
  • Completion of Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) coursework.
  • Two or more years of healthcare experience.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, anatomy, testing procedures, and patient care practices.
