Job Description
South Dakota Parent Connection is seeking a Full-Time Outreach Specialist to provide information, resources, technical assistance, training, and support to families and professionals serving children with developmental disabilities and/or special health care needs. This position helps families access services, connects them with community and statewide resources, and builds partnerships throughout South Dakota.

What You’ll Do
- Support families and professionals by providing information, individualized assistance, technical assistance, and connections to education, health care, services, and community resources.
- Respond to requests for assistance by phone, email, in person, and through other appropriate methods.
- Build and maintain relationships with families, schools, agencies, organizations, community leaders, and community partners.
- Participate in community events, conferences, workshops, and other outreach activities.
- Assist with and deliver training, workshops, presentations, and other educational activities.
- Help develop, update, organize, and distribute print and electronic resources, including newsletters, website content, publications, and social media. Experience in this area is a plus.
- Maintain accurate data and complete required documentation and reports on time while protecting privacy and confidentiality.
- Work collaboratively with staff while supporting the mission, policies, procedures, and priorities of South Dakota Parent Connection.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field is required.
- Education, training, and/or experience that provides the knowledge and skills needed for the position.
- Knowledge of or experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or special health care needs and their families is essential.
- Knowledge of services, support programs, special education, and community and statewide resources.
- Strong communication, organizational, computer, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience providing information, support, technical assistance, or training to families and/or professionals is preferred.
- Parent/family experience with disability or special health care needs is valued.
Working Conditions
- Valid South Dakota driver’s license and willingness to travel locally and throughout South Dakota, including occasional overnight travel.
- Flexible work hours may be needed for events, training, meetings, and travel.
- Work takes place in offices, schools, community locations, conferences, and other outreach settings.
- Position includes computer work, communication, and occasional lifting/carrying of materials up to 50 pounds.
