Outside Sales Representative

Summary of Duties and Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cultivating and managing customer relationships
  • Follow sales leads and schedule appointments with prospective customers
  • Make cold calls to prospective customers
  • Follow up with customers and provide solutions
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and influencing skills along with knowledge of excellent selling practices and techniques
  • Providing training to customers and their teams on various product lines and services
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships, identify product applications and introduce new products/services
  • Prepare quotes and proposals, negotiate terms, and close transactions
  • Keep informed of new products, services and other general information of interest to customers
  • Partner with supplier representatives to sell in new products that will enhance customer performance

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Possess general knowledge of a variety of construction products and equipment
  • Become familiar with customer base
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer needs and maintain confidentiality
  • Calculate pricing, percentages, expenses and profit margins
  • Able to read and interpret instructions and numerical contract information
  • Utilize sales reports and other data to recognize sales opportunities in customer buying patterns
  • Assist customers in the credit application process
  • Connect with customers to ensure that past due bills are paid and collect payments when necessary
  • Demonstrated, basic skills in Microsoft Office products and the use of computer applications

  • Prioritize and plan work activities, manage competing demands and use time efficiently
  • Grow sales and gross profit in your territory by developing existing customers and converting new business
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; monitor own work to ensure quality; apply common sense, understanding to handle problems involving a few variables in standardized situations
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment; manage frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
  • Establish dependability; consistently at work and on time; follow instructions; respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven work experience and solid attendance history
  • Valid driver’s license
    • Ability to drive pickup (with trailer if needed)
  • Clean driving record (MVR will be verified upon offer)
  • Pre-Employment drug screen (required)
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
