Job Description
Objective:
Transport all local pigs between barns when required.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Load, transport, and unload pigs to and from multiple locations while driving with caution to ensure the safety of yourself as well as the equipment you are using.
- Ensure safety for each trip by conducting a pre-trip check.
- Unhook and hook trailers safely and efficiently.
- Working independently and with a team.
- Repair and perform preventative maintenance to ensure the most efficient operation.
- Identify and diagnosis problems on equipment and continually monitor equipment while initiating appropriate repair processes.
- Understand and ensure application of biosecurity protocols.
- Install, maintain, rebuild, replace parts, equipment and troubleshoot maintenance problems.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or directed
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- 2 years of livestock transportation but not required
Work Environment:
- Loading and unloading animals from within the trailer
- Noise levels that require hearing protection in some areas
Physical Requirements:
- Standing, walking and ability to be on feet 8 to 10 hours per day
- Frequent bending, reaching, squatting and kneeling
- Frequent use of one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull
- Frequent lifting of objects weighing 3-20 pounds
- Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move
- Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds or requiring up to 100 pounds of force to move with the assistance of another person as needed
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Additional Requirements:
- Commercial Driver License required
